Medicare Open Enrollment Begins Soon!

Updated:
September 28, 2022

If you are Medicare eligible, most likely, your mailbox is getting full with offers from different Medicare insurance companies trying to sell you their plans. This can be very confusing for most people because there are so many options and in some cases, significant changes in rates, benefits, network of doctors and ancillary benefits such as dental, vision, fitness memberships as well as many other things.

There are always many changes happening with insurance companies, health plans as well as benefits. Just keep in mind your current plan does auto renew so if you are happy with your current plan there is nothing you need to do.

However, it is a good idea to be aware of some of the changes that your current plans may have. The company you are with would send you a Annual notice or Change every September so please do pay attention to that.

Some of the big changes for the coming year 2024 are as follows.

  • The Insulin savings program that was implement back in 2021 caps the copay to $35 but you need to check if your particular brand of insulin is on the formulary of your insurance company.
  • Give back plans give Medicare recipients anywhere from $50 - $100 per month reduction from their part B premiums and is done automatically.  You just need to check which companies will give you the most back.  This can be a big savings for some people considering the premiums for Medicare Part B continue to rise every year.
  • Some insurance companies are also giving limited dental, vision and hearing benefits along with fitness memberships.  Please keep in mind, most of these benefits are embedded on Medicare advantage plans and not Medicare supplement plans.

For most seniors the most important things are the rates, benefits, network of doctors and prescriptions.  Since some of these things change every year, it is a good idea to make sure your doctors will bein your plan for the coming year and your medications are still in the same prescription tier because as you may know, some of the medications can be very expensive and there can be a big difference in co-pays from one tier to the other.
